Contraindications

There are certain health problems related to the Ear, which may preclude ear wax removal from being a safe and viable option at this time. This is due to the health implications that Ear Wax removal can have on these conditions. 

 

Rest assured, that we will find the correct technique to meet your needs. This will be determined by the full ear examination we complete for you and the medical history we complete with you, prior to treatment. 

 

Contraindications to Microsuction

  • Post ear surgery including mastoidectomy

  • A history of a middle ear infection in the last 6 weeks

  • Sudden loss or sudden deterioration of hearing within 72 hours

  • Haematoma in the Ear.

 

Contraindications to Irrigation

​

  • Haematoma in the Ear

  • Sudden loss or sudden deterioration of hearing within 72 hours

  • Perforated ear drum

  • Vertigo

  • Post ear surgery including mastoidectomy

  • A history of a middle ear infection in the last 6 weeks

  • Ear surgery 

  • A history of mucous discharge

  • Evidence of acute otitis externia with pain or tenderness of the pinna.

Precautions

  • A Cleft palate 

  • Tinnitus

  • Dizziness

  • Healed Perforation

  • Citizen's that regularly use Blood thinning medication.

Reduction in the risk of Ear Wax Removal

 

The Combination of a Pre-History Questionnaire and Full Ear Examination is vital before any treatment is offered, to reduce the risk of perforation or other ill effects that may be of issue by performing Ear Wax removal.
